Titian. Dialogues of Nature and Love<\/span><\/i> is a dossier exhibition that stemmed from the loan of Titian\u2019s painting <\/span>Nymph and Shepherd<\/span><\/i> by the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna as part of a programme of cultural exchange between the two institutions.\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

The encounter between the Vienna canvas and the works by Titian in the Galleria Borghese \u2013\u00a0<\/span>Sacred and Profane Love<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Venus Blindfolding Cupid<\/span><\/i> \u2013\u00a0enables the paintings to interact with each other around two themes that were a constant feature of the artist\u2019s production: Nature, as symbolic landscape and place of human action, and Love, depicted in its various forms \u2013 divine, natural and matrimonial love \u2013\u00a0personified by Venus or a nymph, a young girl or a bride.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nature and Love are closely intertwined and represent part of the life cycle, in a harmonious relationship to which alludes the romantic and musical allegory of the\u00a0<\/span>Nymph and Shepherd<\/span><\/i>. This is the final episode of a recurrent theme addressed for the first time by the young Titian with the <\/span>Three Ages of Man<\/span><\/i> (Edinburgh), here presented in the form of a copy by Sassoferrato (from Museum storage), who, during the 17<\/span>th <\/span>century, reproduced \u2013 almost certainly for the Borghese family \u2013 a version of Titian\u2019s painting that was on view in Rome.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>dossier<\/span><\/i> exhibition finds its natural location in room XX (20), where the works of Titian and the Venetian school are on display. The dialogues of Nature and Love are prompted by <\/span>Sacred and Profane Love<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Venus blindfolding Cupid<\/span><\/i> \u2013 already facing one another \u2013 and between <\/span>Nymph and Shepherd<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>The Three Ages of Man<\/span><\/i>, both placed along the other axis.<\/span><\/p>\n

In that room there are also other paintings that can be considered as commentary to these dialogues. Among them, the problematic painting of\u00a0<\/span>Venus, Cupid and a Satyr<\/span><\/i>, in tight correlation with <\/span>Venus blindfolding Cupid<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
