In her ongoing conversations with figuration, what Mutu\u2019s work looks at our value systems in Art and beyond, that either obscure or elevate our image and reflections. Internationally renowned for a practice that encompass-es various techniques and mediums including sculpture, painting, film, installation and collages, Wangechi Mutu\u2019s work features female hybrid creatures and vivid dystopian dreamscapes.<\/p>\n<p>Mutu has participated in several major solo exhibitions in institutions worldwide, most recently, \u201cWangechi Mutu: Intertwined\u201d at both the New Museum in New York (2023) and New Orleans Museum of Art (2024); \u201cThinking Historically in the Present\u201d at the Sharjah Biennial, Arab Emirates (2023); \u201cWangechi Mutu\u201d at Storm King Art Center, New York (2021); \u201cThe Fa\u00e7ade Commission: Wangechi Mutu, The NewOnes, will free Us\u201d at The Metropolitan Museum Art, New York (2019-2020); and \u201cWangechi Mutu: I Am Speaking, Are You listening?\u201d at The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco Legion of Honor Museum (2021).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wangechi Mutu\u2019s work deals with the very idea of human representation; how we per- ceive and reproduce images of what we believe we are, how we view others and create images of what we think of them.
