THE MIRACLE OF DETAIL. IN-DEPTH SEMINAR ON THE EXHIBITION “MARCELLO PROVENZALE DA CENTO”

THE MIRACLE OF DETAIL. IN-DEPTH SEMINAR ON THE EXHIBITION “MARCELLO PROVENZALE DA CENTO”

On Wednesday, April 22nd at 6:00 – 7:00 PM, an in-depth seminar dedicated to one of the current exhibitions will be held at the museum’s portico: Marcello Provenzale da Cento. A genius of Baroque mosaic in the Rome of the Borghese, with the participation of Paolo Di Buono.

In the early seventeenth century, during a moment of extraordinary artistic vitality, Marcello Provenzale introduced a silent but radical transformation into the language of mosaic. It is not merely a matter of technical refinement, but a true redefinition of the gaze: the mosaic, traditionally linked to monumentality and distance, suddenly approaches the intimacy of close-up vision, reaching the territories of painting. It is within this tension between matter and image, between tessera and brushstroke, that what we can define as an authentic “miracle of detail” is achieved: the ability to build, through the infinitely small, an illusion of continuity, light, and life.

Paolo Di Buono is the Head of the Vatican Mosaic Studio at the Fabbrica di San Pietro, the institution responsible for the creation and restoration of the mosaics of the Vatican Basilica, heir to a technical tradition of exceptional historical continuity.

The event is free to attend, but registration is required at this link
